A bump on the back of her head
One month ago, my daughter got a bump on the back of her head. When I went to collect her, she was sitting somberly on a little chair with tear marks on her cheek. As soon as she saw me, her eyes redden again and tears poured out.
But the reason was not so unhappy, because her teacher reported that when she and George hugging, they lost balance and fell on the ground.
Recently she complains that her FRIEND Mia always pushes her. In one case when she and Joshua were sitting on a bench, Mia pushed them, both tripped and fell. Joshua got a bump and black mark on his elbow and cried.
Because she complains Mia several times, we're quite concerned, and reported to her teacher Mrs Douglas. She listened and said: "I will keep an eye on them!" After that Mrs Douglas and her assistant might report that Brenda got a fall, but no marks on her elbow, and reassured me that they are" working on it".
I really don't know how to advice her. At first, I just said if Mia pushed you, you push back!
But she said, "no!"
I asked, "why?"
She said:"I push back, Mia will fall and cry, Wawalei(Shanghai Dialect, means getting hurt, very pain and crying)."
This response seems has some ancient philosopy meaning, because Confucius says, Don't do to others as you would not have them do to you.
Then I suggested: "Then you may tell Mrs Douglas, and your teacher will Mo (Shanghai dialect again, means scold, criticize) Mia."
She agreed and seems quite happy with this recommendation.
How to deal school bullying?
How may we advise my daughter, shall she learn to Cope with School Bullying by herself?
This make me recall my own experience in secondary school. My father was village teacher, all my primary school were completed under his supervision, so nobody might dare to bully his headteacher's son.
But when I went to Secondary school in town, lived in the student dormitory, the situation was quite different. In one accasion, my roommate stole my enamel mug, and in another occassion, I was besieged by yobs and everybody stroke my head, because I was too clever, they want to share my brain!
My father told me, I also complained to him about bullying in school, he adviced my to hit back, too. but I refused to do that. My father told me that my reason of not hitting back was: The first stroke normally not too hard, but if you hit back, you might got harder one!
Silly, did I say that?
